The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department and the Orienteering Association of Hong Kong jointly organise the World Orienteering Day Carnival. Orienteering is a sport that challenges both the body and the mind. Participants will visit a series of control points marked on a detailed orienteering map, making it a great way to experience and enjoy nature. The public is welcome to join the carnival and have a taste of orienteering fun in the country park.

20-21 May, 2023 (Saturday and Sunday)
Note: Activities for both carnival days are the same; pre-registration is not required

Tai Tong Barbecue Sites No. 1, 6 and 7 (Tai Lam Country Park)

10:00 am to 4:00 pm
Orienteering activities:
1. Sprint orienteering course (Barbecue Site No. 1, Tai Tong)
— Special carnival courses are set up with the brand-new Tai Tong Orienteering Route^ as foundation.
This activity is suitable for all ages and technical levels, especially for families with children to experience a first go at orienteering. Compasses may be borrowed if required.
2. Coach Corner — Tips from Hong Kong Team
— Introduction to orienteering brought to you by Hong Kong orienteering elites
A great opportunity to learn or improve orientation skills! Feel free to ask these elite orienteers for advice!
3. Orientation maze
— Use the map to find your way through fun and challenging orienteering mazes.
The maze is suitable for all ages and technical levels. Families are welcome to crack this challenge together.
A mini maze is specially designed for children aged 8 or under to complete by themselves. Parents or guardians may accompany young children, or supervise from the side.
4. String Orienteering
— Orienteering activity just for kids!
This activity is for children only. Participants will follow a clearly marked path that passes by a series of orienteering controls, and collect stickers of native animals at each control. Follow the markings to the Finish to complete the course. Children aged 5 or under must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
^Tai Tong Orienteering Course is located at No. 1 Tai Tong Barbecue Site No. 1, and will officially open in May 2023.

Souvenirs:
Participants may collect souvenirs upon completion of specific carnival activities. Souvenirs are provided on a first-come-first-served basis.
How to get there:
- Public transport
Take MTR bus route no. K66 at MTR Long Ping Station / Yuen Long Town or red minibus at Hung Min Court and get off at Tai Tong Shan Road bus station. Walk along Tai Tong Shan Road uphill for about 25 minutes to reach Tai Tong Barbecue Site No. 1.
- Carnival shuttle
Shuttles to Tai Tong Barbecue Site No. 1 are available at Yuen Long Station Exit H (near Long Ming Street) from 10 am to 3:30 pm at 15 to 20- minute intervals. Return shuttle from Tai Tong to Yuen Long station is available until 5 pm.
Shuttle buses are 28-seaters, seats will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.

Points to note:
The event will be cancelled without prior notice if Thunderstorm Warning, any Rainstorm Warning or Tropical Cyclone Warning is hoisted at 8 a.m. on the activity day.
